Carrie Dashow and Suzanne Goldenberg, my artist buddies

The staff at Camp Ballibay is a diverse group of talented people from all over the globe. This year, we had drummers from Scotland, an equestrian expert from Germany and a number of rockers from the UK.  We’ve also got some amazing staff who hail from all parts of  New York City and enjoy the opportunity to breathe fresh air and see the sparkling stars at night. Two of my most favorite staff are a couple of artists from NYC, Suzanne Goldenberg and Carrie Dashow.

Suzanne and I have been eating together at the Ballibay dining hall for 2 years now. She always has a way of making me laugh and we often talk food. Suzanne has a big job as director of the Farm Arts Program and works tirelessly to assure that her art counselors and artists in residence are in sync with the campers. Her endless creativity amazes me.

Carrie is an artist in residence, she comes for two week periods each year and creates fun and amazing events. I love participating in her “art lottery” in which campers and staff exchange works of art. I always end up with cool things! This year, Carrie and Suzanne worked with campers to create a “fort” out of recycled cardboard and other materials. This fort was like a time machine that brought me back to my childhood, I could hang out here all day.
